Remembering Angie

Annie's tapestry

Today is my daughter’s 36th birthday. When she came out of her first rehab, back in 2002, she made me this lovely tapestry. I think it was her way of saying “I’m sorry, Mom, not for being sick, but for what my addiction drove me to do to you.” I cherish this gift and view it as a symbol of the goodness that all our suffering addicts carry within them. As long as Angie is alive, I have hope that she will find her way back to her family.

  1. How lovely Marilea, never give up. My daughter is in the early years of this horrible addiction and I read you words and my heart is there with you – whether 10 yrs or 1 year – this is real and painful…Grace is there for us both to bare this until as you state…they find their way back.

    God Bless you,
    Janet

    1. And many blessings to you, Janet. This is such a cruel disease, not only because we eventually learn that we lack the power to cure our children but because there is still so much stigma and judgment out there making our journey, and our children’s, that much more difficult. What keeps me going is my unswerving faith that things are unfolding as they are meant to. And gratitude, miles of gratitude, for all the other blessings in my life. I thank God I still have the eyes to see and appreciate them. Hugs to you
